Vietnam Airlines is planning to increase fares on its domestic flights following the rise of fuel costs, according to officials from the national flag carrier recently.

Vietnam Airlines is likely to ask for government permission to charge an additional 50,000 VND on domestic flight fares, airline officials said.

Soaring petrol costs have raised the carrier’s fuel costs since early this year by more than 500 billion VND (31.5 million USD), officials said.

With increased fares, the state airline will be able to compensate a small part - about 50 billion VND – of the high fuel costs, officials said.

Officials said Vietnam Airlines was also considering getting permission to push up its ceiling prices of airfares.
